MCDOWELL BACKS RORY

Golf’s 15th ranked player in the world Graeme McDowell is extremely proud of the achievements of his countryman, close friend and Ryder Cup team mate after the 22 year old reached the top of the OWGR rankings, stating that he is by far the best player that he has had the chance to play with, as well as against.

McIlroy became the world number one after he held off a challenge from his idol and perhaps the biggest superstar in the history of golf, Tiger Woods to win the Honda Classic at Florida a couple of weeks back to become the world’s number one, dethroning English golfer Luke Donald in the process.

McDowell stated that at 22 years of age, McIlroy’s status as the best golfer in the world might seem to be premature for most people but not to him. He added that there were just a few missing links to Rory becoming a dominant force in golf and it was only a matter of time before he discovered those missing links.

Speaking to the media just before tee off of the Cadillac Championships, one of the most prestigious events of the World Golf Championship, Graeme McDowell said that the moment Rory learned how to putt the ball spelt danger for most of the other professional golfers and the results are there for all to see.

Asked if he had to do anything with McIlroy becoming the world’s number one golfer, the shy McDowell commented that the youngster didn’t need his help. He went on to claim that he hadn’t seen or played against Tiger Woods in his prime but he can challenge that McIlroy is getting there and when he’s done, there would be no stopping him.

Graeme McDowell finally stated that McIlroy promised him an expensive bottle of champagne if he became the world number one and he’s still to receive the gift.

POULTER PULLS OUT

Ian Poulter has had to pull out of the Honda Classic because he is suffering from pneumonia. He was supposed to play with Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood in the first two rounds at the beautiful Palm Beach Gardens.

Poulter wrote on twitter that he has never been so disappointed to pull out of a tournament as he was diagnosed with pneumonia. But the good news is that he will recover in time to play the World Championship which will be held in Miami.

Tiger Woods didn’t have the best start to the tournament either, as he struggled to come to terms with the wind. Woods started off with a birdie putt of less than twenty feet but he just could not make any putt after that which was longer than ten feet. He had thirty four putts in a single round which contained two more birdies but also had four bogeys much to his disappointment.

Rory Mcilroy, who needs to win the tournament in order to become the world number one, had a good start to the tournament as he shot four under par 66 and is now two behind his competitor Davis Love. According to the best golf odds, McIlroy has a greater chance of winning the tournament than Davis Love.

Mcilroy commented that the course was very scoring in the morning. He said that he was very happy with the way he played apart from a single mistake that he made on the eighth green, when he made a three putt.

He has been striving towards the number one rank in the world rankings which is now occupied by Luke Donald. Thankfully, Donald had a very slow start to the season and hence Rory Mcilroy is getting a lot of chances to get past him.

It remains to be seen if Rory Mcilroy can win this tournament and finally achieve the number one spot.
